Stories From The Set of GMA 7's Little Nanay6:11 AM
We arrived at the Batongbuhay residence a little after lunch. The filming slowed down and most of the cast were inside their tents, taking all the opportunity to take a break from a 24-hour long taping. Inside the quaint ancestral house, however, the action continued.
Poles of heavy lighting equipment were being moved around and an actor was being briefed of his blocking for the next sequence. The Superstar herself, Nora Aunor could be here, one of us said. One lady from the crew nodded in affirmation. This got us all giddy.
This two-storey house in Santa Ana, Manila is the main location for GMA 7's primetime soap "Little Nanay". The drama series stars Kris Bernal, who plays Tinay, a young mother with special condition; and Chlaui Malayao, who plays the adorable Chie Chie, Tinay's daughter. Highlighting a respectable ensemble for this drama series is no less than the Superstar. Nora Aunor is Tinay's mother Lola Annie. The award-winning Bembol Rocco plays his husband Berto. The comedic duo of Mark Herras (Peter Parker Batongbuhay) and Juancho Trivino (Bruce Wayne Batongbuhay) complete the souls in this fictional household.
I had few chances of watching Little Nanay. It is being aired after primetime news and that's too early. God knows how many of us are still out there dealing with traffic. But when I catch it, I'm glued to it. The soap has this warmth which makes those of us who are away from home miss home. This maybe because of how simple and light the story is. There is less time given to conflicts and more scenes are spent on the family bonding together.
Talking to Kris Bernal at the set while waiting for her take, she exclaimed how people are yearning for a light family drama on primetime. "Nakakapagod din kaya yung palagi na lang may namamatay sa cancer. We can actually teach lessons even if we have a light na story," the young actress said.
Kris is also taking the competition lightly. Her show is up against a gigantic Coco Martin production "Ang Probinsyano" who is starting to pull away ahead in the ratings game. "Ratings bother me, yes, because that is one way of measuring the success of a show. Pero there is also this satisfaction na nagawa namin ng tama 'yung show namin, na quality show siya." Little Nanay was enjoying a successful pilot month in November 2014 until it was pitted head to head with ABS-CBN's action drama. "Yung mga ilang percent na nanonood samin, audience pa rin yun and we are happy we have them and we have to take care of them."
With the main cast in Little Nanay are Eddie Garcia, Hiro Peralta, Sunshine Dizon, Paolo Contis, Gladys Reyes, Kempee de Leon, Wynwyn Marquez and Jay Arcilla. The show will run for another 3 weeks with the finale on March 18.
Meanwhile, here are 10 videos of the conversations we had with the cast during our set visit.
