LIVE BLOG: Top 5 Movies of the Year and the Oscar Predictions and Winners

6:21 AM

This year may not be as spectacular as the previous years when we talk about quality films, noting that the Academy only cited 8 movies for the Best Picture race instead of the usual 10, but it is still an exciting contest. Hollywood press talk about Boyhood being head to head with Birdman for the top prize but I am hoping for a surprise. I just have this gut feeling that The Grand Budapest Hotel might take it.

I am such a fan of the Oscars that I skip school just to watch the live telecast back in high school. I am used to the 5-hour awards show then that I bargain anything precious with my brother just to take control over which channel to watch. For the past few years, however, the show's producers trimmed the ceremony to the normal 3 hours with speeches for minor categories timed at a maximum duration of 60 seconds and 90 seconds for the major awards.

But who will take home the golden statues?

I had the chance to watch a number of good movies since December, from the time that the Golden Globes announced their nominees, up to today to release my own predictions. So, here are my choices.

My personal choices are *highlighted per category while the actual winners will be highlighted with red as the ceremonies go on later. I also attached the trailers of my top 5 favorite movies of the year for your viewing pleasure. Let me know if you agree with the results or if you have your own favorites at the comments section below. :)
