Ayala Auto Holdings Corporation (AAHC), led by Ayala brothers Fernando and Augusto, has made the third generation Volkswagen Beetle available to the Philippine market.

The deadline I imposed to myself is to own a car by 25. Nope, not something passed on or funded by my parents. The one that counts is an automobile that I purchase solely on my own. Three years later, that dream has not be realized yet.

We can point out several reasons for the lack of excitement to acquire: the crazy Metro Manila traffic, fluctuating gas prices, expensive parking spaces that taking a cab is more efficient and financially wise. But I just learned today that owning a car is like owning a piece of clothing. You don't need to buy one but spending for it anyway is a satisfying expression of individuality. Just as what the Beetle has given to the millions who owned it, their everyday drive has always been life's greatest gifts.

Today, April 2, the third generation of the Volkwagen icon is officially back: the one and only Beetle. In a ceremony at The Mind Museum at the Bonifacio Global City, Ayala Auto Holdings Corporation (AAHC) and Automobile Central Enterprise, Inc. (ACEI) released the Volkswagen Beetle to the Philippine market. The ceremony is led by no less than AAHC Chairman Fernando Zobel de Ayala and his brother Augusto Zobel de Ayala.

From all the generations and cultures who loved it, the small car was named according to precisely what it looked like: Beetle. It embodied the automotive concept and symbolized the democratization of mobility with 21.5 million cars sold since its first production in 1939 to 1997. The new Beetle arrived in 1998. It introduced a new automotive feeling to the world and brought with it the Beetle Mania. In 2010, the Final Edition completed the New Beetle series that has sold more than one million cars. And now, looking forward, the future of the most famous car in the world begins now in a completely new generation.

Gian Magdangal performed songs to delight the crowd at the Volkswagen Third Generation launch at the Mind Museum, Bonifacio Global City on Wednesday, April 2.

What can the new Beetle offer? It is bolder, more dynamic and is truly engineered to play. For one, the new Beetle breaks free from the geometry of the previous model and displays impressive sports appeal: extended bonnet, swept-back windscreen and a longer wheelbase. In addition, it offers a distinctly improved feeling of space with its longer roof section.

The new car is 1,808 mm wide (84 mm wider), 1,486 mm tall (12 mm lower) and 4,278 mm long (152 mm longer). The gain in length meant that the roof could be extended further, the front widescreen could be shifted back and the rear section could follow the countour of the original Beetle. The new focal point is C-Pillar. In parallel, the development team increased the car's track widths and wheelbase. All of these gives the Beetle a powerful appearance with muscular tension.

The Volkswagen BGC showroom is located at the 28th Street City Center, Bonifacio Global City. Showroom hours are from Monday to Thursday at 8AM to 6PM and every Friday and Saturday from 8AM to 7PM.
