The Instagram Feed: SM City Bicutan catering to every kind of foodie

5:12 PM

With a floor area of 112,737 square meters, SM City Bicutan is not one of those supersized malls. In fact, its total retail size is five times smaller than SM Megamall in Mandaluyong. But if you think you will run out of choices for both casual and chic dining, one of Paranaque's premiere malls can surprise you.

Dish and dessert delights clockwise starting from left: Silom's Fresh Vegetarian Spring Rolls, The Godfather Pizza from Gotti's Ristorante, Fresh fruit platter from Gerry's Grill and Silom's Chicken with Coconut Soup or Tom Kha Gai.

This is why despite the humble floor space, SM City Bicutan is considered one of the favorite shopping and dining destinations in the south. I spent half a day with blogger friends in one weekend here and I say a feast is not far from being realized.

Six establishments offering different kinds of menus- from Thai to Italian, from seafood to vegetables, from ice cream to crepe, and from coffee to beer, you cannot underestimate unassuming food shops most especially if they have this sheer intention to provide an unforgettable dining experience.

We opened our food trip in Silom with the savoury Tom Kha Gai (Chicken with Coconut Soup). Later on, we were introduced to Poh Pia Sod or the Fresh Vegetarian Spring Rolls. Proud to be offering authentic Thai dishes, Silom wowed us some more with the Kamoo Pad Ped (Crispy Pata in Red Curry Sauce) and the Rad Prik (Whole Fish with Garlic Chili Sauce.)

Not having enough space on our tummies for another set of meal, we were ushered by the great people of SM City Bicutan to Savory. Everyone's 'other' Chicken favorite restaurant corrected my first impression. They don't just feed hungry people. They also impress guests with their signature Filipino- Chinese dishes. The moment we got to Savory, welcoming us on a long table were Cream of Corn and Crab Soup, Beef Stir Fry with Broccoli, Lechon Macau, Sweet and Sour Fish Fillet and of course, the Savory Chicken.

Trying to get a light fix before getting another heavy meal, we opted to go Italian. Again, you must learn to not expect less in SM City Bicutan. Gotti's Ristorante and its Garlic Shrimp Pasta is a marvel on its own. Not too creamy but not to dry, with a little bit of spiciness, sweetness and the salty aftertaste, this white pasta is best paired with pizza. This wish was also granted as we were given a free taste of Gotti's pride, the Godfather Pizza.

From the main building, we walked to the new building and found ourselves ready for a simpler Filipino feast. Think of Adobo Flakes, Original Chicken Adobo, Kangkong Adobo and even Shanghai Rolls. Don't you just love Adobo Connection? Aside from their branch in SM City Bicutan, this fast growing Filipino restaurant chain can also be found in SM Manila, SM Megamall and SM malls in the south including SM Rosario, SM Dasmarinas and SM City Bacoor. When you have the chance to be "adobo connected", you must try their mouthwatering Adobo sa Gata!

Going organic with Adobo Connection's Adobong Kangkong and Silom's Kao Niew Ma-muang or the Sticky Rice

With all the heavy meals, we thought of having desserts. At the ground floor of the new building is French Baker. I heard from a friend how good their Mango and Almond Crepe is and so I took the opportunity of trying it. With ripe mangoes wrapped hidden in pancake and an almond ice cream on top, catching up with friends over this dessert would be a time well spent. To extend the catching up moments, I also recommend the tasty French Baker Hot Chocolate.

Of course, we are not ending the day without beer so we trooped our way to Gerry's Grill. If you think you know everything about Gerry's Grill, think again. Their signature dishes, Chicken Kebab, Crispy Pata and Pork Sisig, are still available but you might want to try a new set of food delights this famous dining and drinking spot has cooked for its guests. Devour on Pinaputok na Tuna, Spicy Sashimi, Egg Ensalada, Oriental Garlic Seafood and their amazing desserts Ginataang Halo-halo and Toasted Ice Cream.

Indeed, that was a fun day of exploring tastes and finding new friends. For whatever kind of a food fan you are: discriminating or traditional, Oriental or European, dish or dessert lover, there's a place for you in SM City Bicutan
