"Basement" is unfazed by competition, Valentine's horror offering opens Feb 12

6:30 PM

For Dion Ignacio, one of the cast of Coffee House Productions and Springboard Films Productions' newest horror movie "Basement", he would rather choose getting the whole pie than getting just a slice of it. Their horror movie will open on the same day as Toni Gonzaga and Piolo Pascual's "Starting Over Again". The Valentine offering of Star Cinema is predicted to be a box office hit with its trailer enjoying 2.3 million views on YouTube as of this writing. For Dion, it would be smart to move the movie's screening to another start date. If only he has the final say.

However, the young actor is in full support of their horror project no matter what. "Andyan na yan eh. Double time na lang sa pag promote", Ignacio said. An executive from GMA New Media, meanwhile, disclosed that choosing February 12 as Basement's opening date has been decided as early as last year. The project is in the works for almost 2 years and there's no way another date shall be considered other than February 12.

Coffee House Productions and Springboard Films Productions make a bold move as they veer away from the usual romance stories on Valentine's Day. A horror would be a sweet surprise for lovers who tend to laugh during the freight moments. "Feel niyo na maghawakan kayo ng kamay ng mahal mo, mag kurutan sa loob ng sihenan, siguradong maiibibigay ng Basement ang mga yun sa inyo," says another cast member RJ Padilla.

The best way to hold the bloggers conference of the newest horror film "Basement" is at the basement of GMA Network center.

For Kevin Santos, also one of the cast, with Topel Lee directing the movie, the audience is assured of the scare moments the movie promises. Admitting to have the gift of third eye, Kevin shared how he noticed some figures appearing, disappearing and appearing again while they were filming. Dex Quindoza, another Starstruck alumnus who is also part of the ensemble shared how he and Dion noticed another entity to be standing near them while shooting a dark scene.

Something the cast is proud of are the special effects and the prosthetic used in the film. "Di po siya basta-basta. Di po to yung usual horror na ang nakakatakot na parts one by one. Dito po sunod-sunod dahil sa galing ng effects," RJ declared. Joining him, Dion, Kevin and Dex Quindoza in the movie are Chynna Ortaleza, Mona Louise Rey, Louise delos Reyes, Kristoffer Martin, Enzo Pineda, Teejay Marquez and Ms Pilita Corales. Controversial Sarah Lahbati is reported to have a sequence in the film alongside another controversial sexy celebrity, Ellen Adarna.

For The Lifestyle Hub, a spooky turned cute Valentine's Day retreat is welcome. I'd say watch both films but be sure to check out "Basement" first on February 12.
