The performances of horror movies at the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) box office have been significantly outstanding for the past 5 years. From P68 million in ticket earnings in 2007 and 2008, P76 million in 2009, P50 million in 2010 to P55 million last year and regardless if its part 100, many of us are still going to watch Shake, Rattle and Roll. But this most used Filipino movie title of all time is not the only horror film which is performing good in the box office. Outperforming it in fact, are 2010 and 2011 Star Cinema horror flicks Dalaw and Segunda Mano

With Quantum Films, Star Cinema is set to distribute another horror film for this year's MMFF. Starring bankable young stars including Enchong Dee, Enrique Gil, Julia Montes and JM de Guzman, The Strangers is set to banner the horror genre this year, although, still in the official entry list is Shake, Rattle and Roll 14.

"I know na meron competition but I am proud na we are part of a great competition kasi ang gagaling ng entries this year. To be part of this very competent list of movies, masaya nako na lumalaban pa rin kami", Enchong Dee said when asked about The Strangers' chances in this year's festival. This was echoed by his co-star and veteran actress Janice de Belen. "Happy ako na part kami sa entries this year. I know na there will be a challenge pero that's why you work hard and you push yourself more", de Belen narrated.

"Alam naman natin na pag Film Fest, puro mga big players ang nakakapasok. Before Thy Womb came, this (The Strangers) is the first independently-produced film na nakapasok as official entry. Masayang-masaya ako kasi nabigyan ng pagkakataon", Cherry Pie Picache, who is also part of the film's cast, also said. Joining Picache, de Belen and the 4 lead stars  in this movie are Jaime Fabregas and Johnny Revilla.

Directing the movie is Lawrence Fajardo on his first directorial job for an MMFF entry. Fajardo is the director of the Cinemalaya movie Posas (Shackles), who, at the time of the presscon, was greeted with good news that his movie won Best Feature Film at the Hanoi International Film Festival in Hanoi. Fajardo is a native of Iloilo which also helped his folkloric foundations of the mythical "aswang".

"Confident kami na may ipapakita kaming iba. Yun lang talaga. Di siya kagaya ng ibang horror movies", Enrique Gil explained. "Di po kami napabayaan sa set. Binigay po namin lahat", JM de Guzman also shared in his concluding message. The Strangers is set to open on Christmas Day together with the 7 other entries of the 38th Metro Manila Film Festival.
