'Sisterakas' gets a head start to the MMFF box office race

It's the time of the year again when we are bombarded by daily updates of the box office reports of the competing movies for the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF). For about two weeks, no international movies are to be shown in all movie houses in the Philippines so it is very crucial for the entries to take the opportunity and sell.

For the 38th MMFF, movie outfits try once again to assemble what they know is their formula of box office success. Si Agimat, si Enteng at Ako is poised to get the familiar position for both Vic Sotto and Bong Revilla Jr. but the bankable triumvirate of Vice Ganda, Ai Ai delas Alas and Kris Aquino for Sisterakas is starting to also pull the most attention and lead the race.

In a grand presscon held earlier today, the lead stars of one of Star Cinema's three festival entries shared how they are hopeful for Sisterakas to emerged as the most watched movie in the MMFF. "We are praying for that", the movie's director, Wenn Deramas, said. "Alangan naman ipagdasal namin ang ibang pelikula. So 'yun talaga. Nag hope kami na sana mag number 1", Ai Ai delas Alas, on the other hand, commented.

While her previous festival movies grossing well but didn't topped the box office, Kris Aquino was hoping for a better ranking this year. "Nung 2010 kasi nag number 3 ako. Last year naman, number 2. Maybe, it's about time na number 1 naman ngayon", she shared. To recall, Kris Aquino is part of the all-star ensemble of Mano Po 6: A Mother's Love in the 2009 Metro Manila Film Festival when it earned P41 million and ranked 5th out of 7 entries. In 2010, Kris starred in the horror movie Dalaw with Diether Ocampo which grossed P125 million and ranked 3rd behind box office leaders Si Agimat at Enteng Kabisote and Ang Tanging Ina Mo, Last Na To. Last year, Kris appeared in another horror movie Segunda Mano which ranked 2nd in the box office with a P127- million receipt and behind only to Enteng ng Ina Mo.

Meanwhile, Ai Ai delas Alas became honest on her Festival Best Actress prediction. "Sige po, kay Ate Guy na lang", she said when asked by a tabloid reporter for reactions on the Best Actress favorite. Nora Aunor will be seen in 2 entries this year including El Presidente with E.R Ejercito but it is in Brillante Mendoza's Thy Womb where Aunor is deemed to be a runaway winner for the Best Actress trophy. "Ayoko na po lumaban kasi kung talagang pang acting yung sa kanya, sa kanya na po. Di naman kasi talaga pang acting yung akin although ginalingan ko din naman syempre. Bigay na po natin kay Ate Guy basta may kikitain lang yung movie namin", she narrated. When asked for some reactions, Kris Aquino, who could be another contender for the Best Actress trophy declined to comment.

Vice Ganda, for his part, declared how prepared he is for the movie. "Dati nga, mag isa lang ako, kinaya ko. Tapos nun, tatlo lang kami, ngayon pa kaya na lima kami. Masasabi ko na handang-handa ako ngayon", he declared. Aside from the three leads, Vice was also referring to the most popular love team in the industry today, Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, who are also part of the movie. "Nakakasigurado akong magkakaroon tayo ng isang maligayang pasko pag nanood kayo nito", Vice added.

Aside from Si Agimat, Si Enteng at Ako, other entries who are showing promise in the box office are One More Try (Angel Locsin, Dindong Dantes, Angelika Panganiban, Zanjoe Marudo), The Strangers (Enchong Dee, Enrique Gil, Julia Montes, JM de Guzman) and Shake, Rattle, Roll 14 (Vhong Navarro, Lovi Poe, Dennis Trillo and Janice de Belen). Other entries include El Presidente, Thy Womb, and GMA Films' Sossy Problems (Heart Evangelista, Solenn Heussaf, Rhian Ramos, Bianca King, Benjamin Alves, Mikael Daez and Aljur Abrenica). Sisterakas is directed by Wenn Deramas and will open in cinemas nationwide together with other MMFF entries on December 25.

A personalized Christmas card from the Queen of All Media herself is one thoughtful gesture.
Kris Aquino filled up all the cards by herself and gave it to all the press members and bloggers
who attended the presscon.
